In 1951, famous Japanese-American designer Isamu Noguchi produced the Akari Light Sculptures, a hand-made art series of paper and bamboo lamps. Comprising over 100 lights of all sizes, shapes, and prices, the Akari name is derived from the Japanese word for "light" and "clarity". Crafted in a traditional family-run workshop in Gifu, these iconic and beloved lamps are known for their distinct and quirkiness. The paper lanterns bring together Japanese handcraft and modernist form, emitting a soft, high-quality diffused light.
