Alvar Aalto's Stool 60 is an iconic piece of Finnish furniture design. Even today, its striking, modern shape is unmistakable. Versatile, these stools can stack together to create a beautiful tower when not in use, as well as being used as small tables. Aalto's stool was first presented in 1933 and was an instant success. Its revolutionary L-leg structure revolutionised modern Scandinavian design. The process of bending the leg is still the same - pieces of birch are sawn and plywood is glued in the grooves. Heating or steaming is used to achieve the desired angle, before drying which gives it a strong, durable texture.
