In 1951, artist Isamu Noguchi created Akari Light Sculptures, a collection of more than 100 handcrafted paper and bamboo lamps. He called the series Akari, which means "light and clarity" in Japanese. The Ozeki family workshop in Gifu is responsible for carefully constructing each lamp. Akari has become a beloved design classic, combining traditional Japanese handcraft with modernist form. These lanterns provide a soft diffused light of superior quality.
